BIRD CITY -- A Bird City man was killed Tuesday on U.S. Highway 36 after his vehicle collided with a semi in Cheyenne County.

According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Alan J. Chumley, 47, was traveling westbound about 4.5 miles east of the Kansas Highway 27 junction when the 1993 Geo Metro he was driving crossed the center line and was met head-on by a semi driven by 54-year-old Paul L. Payton Jr., Big Springs, Neb.

The KHP reported Chumley was not wearing a seat belt.

Payton was wearing a seat belt. He refused treatment at the scene.
