LORETTA -- A 73-year-old Victoria man died Wednesday after the vehicle he was riding in overturned in Rush County.

Norman F. Schrant was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Dexter B. Urban, 16, Hays, while traveling north on Rush County Road 320, 7 miles north of Loretta at about 3 p.m., according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Urban lost control of the vehicle, and the 2004 Ford Ranger entered the west ditch then rolled 3.5 times after Urban attempted to steer the vehicle back onto the roadway.

Both were taken to Hays Medical Center, where Schrant later died. Urban was transported to a hospital in Wichita. His condition is unknown.

Neither Urban nor Schrant were wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.
