Holub, FHSU win again

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The Fort Hays State University softball team, ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II, moved into today's MIAA conference tournament championship round with two wins.
FHSU, 43-9 and No. 1 in the Central Region defeated Missouri Western State University 3-0 and University of Central Oklahoma 5-0. Senior Maddie Holub threw a no-hitter versus UCO, her sixth of the year, and second in as many days. She had five strikeouts and one walk in the no-hitter.
Fort Hays defeated Missouri Western for the third time this year as Maddie Holub outdueled Jackie Bishop for the second time in a low-scoring game. Bishop and Holub have earned first team all-MIAA honors at pitcher each of the last two years. They've won the last two MIAA Pitcher of the Year awards, including for Holub this spring. Holub struck out 10 and allowed just two baserunners. Sophomore center fielder Amanda Vaupel hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh for the game's lone runs.
Then the Tigers defeated UCO, the No. 1 seed and ranked No. 12 nationally. Vaupel and freshman first baseman Tori Beltz each had a hit and two RBIs. Beltz homered.
Fort Hays and the Bronchos had the first meeting of the year after the regular season doubleheader was postponed and then UCO declined the reschedule date.
