WICHITA -- The Fort Hays State University men's and women's track teams hit several NCAA Division II provisional marks at the K.T. Woodman Classic this weekend at Wichita State University.
On the men's side, four Tigers hit provisional marks.
Sophomore Brady Tien, a Logan graduate, had a provisional mark in the pole vault, and senior Max Alonso, sophomore Alex VanLoenen, from Hill City, and junior Garrett Smith cleared provisional marks in the discus. Tien took fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 15-11.25 feet and is ranked 16th nationally.
In the discus, Alonso finished second at 173-9, while VanLoenen was fourth at 169-6 and Smith went 166-4 for sixth. On the national list, Alonso stands seventh, VanLoenen 13th and Smith 21st.
On the women's side, junior Makayla McPhail, already an automatic qualifier, won the javelin with a throw of 146-8. Junior Sarah Hardin went 146-1 in the discus and moved to 16th on the national list.
