Hendee wins 1,500 at KU Relays

LAWRENCE - Fort Hays State University senior Alex Hendee won the 1,500-meter run at the prestigious KU Relays on Saturday at the University of Kansas. Hendee ran 3 minutes, 54.98 seconds to win in a six-runner field. Sophomore Cory Keehn was third in the 10,000-meter run with 30:59. He finished four seconds behind the winner, Dan Kuhman of NCAA Division I University of Memphis. Senior Max Alonso, already eighth nationally in the discus, finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 169 feet, 5 inches. Alonso's throw was a provisional mark. At the Tabor Invite, three pole vaulters -- junior Derrick Snodgrass, sophomore Brady Tien and junior Brett Ottley -- went first, second and third. They all finished with the same height of 4.42 meters.
On the women's side, the Tigers won the 4x880-yard relay with 9:39.20. Junior Sam Szczublewski was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.59, just three-tenths behind champion Lovan Palmer of Lincoln (Mo.) University. Junior Makayla McPhail finished third in the javelin with a throw of 151-2.
