HHS girls ends season with tie, set record
By The Hays Daily News
SALINA -- The Hays High School girls' soccer team ended its regular season with a 2-2 tie, but it still was enough to break a record.
Hays High (13-2-1) set its regular season scoring defense record Thursday at Salina Central. The Indians have allowed a total of nine goals this season -- three goals better than the previous record of 12 set in 2010.
The Indians got on the scoreboard early against Central when senior outside midfielder April Johnson scored on an assist from senior Taylor Herman in the second minute.
Central grabbed the momentum immediately in the second half, recording goals in the 42nd and 44th minutes by Devon Schmidz and Carson Jett, respectively. Jorrie Dykes and Sara Ingrassia provided assists.
However, the Herman-Johnson connection continued in the 60th minute when Herman scored her 10th goal of the season on an assist from Johnson to tie it.
Hays High senior goalkeeper Laura Truman finished with six saves.
The Class 5A regional tournament is scheduled to be seeded Saturday. Hays High is a favorite to receive one of the top-three seeds.
