HHS softball sweeps Colby

COLBY -- The Hays High School softball team got their first sweep in a road doubleheader this season.

The Indians defeated Colby 16-11 in Game 1 and 15-3 in a five-inning run rule in Game 2.

Hays High (6-4) got plenty of help from its bats in both games, hitting 16 of 39 in the opener and 21 of 36 in the second game.

Six Indians registered a multi-hit game in the opener, and seven had more than one hit in Game 2.

However, as good as everyone played, sophomore Kaylie Schoendaller shined the most. Of her six hits in the doubleheader, five were five home runs. She hit two homers in Game 1 and three in Game 2.

Freshman Madison Prough (5-3) pitched the entire doubleheader for Hays High.

Prough allowed eight earned runs in Game 1 on 15 hits and five walks while striking out four, and in the second game, she surrendered three earned runs off nine hits and two walks while striking out two.
