HHS softball ends season at 12-9

GODDARD -- The Hays High School softball team fell to Maize South in the first round of the Class 5A regional in Goddard.
The Indians lost 9-3, and Maize South (15-5) defeated regional host Goddard-Eisenhower in the next round to reach state.
Hays High (12-9) finished with six hits but had three errors.
Freshman Madison Prough started the game and lasted four innings before getting relieved by sophomore Jenna Luebbers.
Prough (7-7) allowed eight runs, four earned, off 10 hits and a walk while striking out none. Luebbers pitched two innings and allowed an unearned run off two hits.
The Indians scored all of their runs in the top of the fifth inning when junior catcher Haley Wells scored on a passed ball and senior shortstop Katelyn Schumacher drove in a pair of runs with a single to center field.
