HHS boys' swimming takes 12th
By The Hays Daily News
WICHITA -- The Hays High School swim team competed at the Wichita Heights Invitational on Saturday, tying for 12th place in a 21-team field. The Indians matched the 63 points of Winfield, while all schools finished well short of first place Wichita East's 469 points. Maize was second with 285 points.
Hays High made no additions to its state qualifiers. The Indians best individual finisher was junior Morgan Mathews, who finished eighth in the 100-yard Butterfly in 59.29 seconds.
Both relay teams faired well for the Indians. The 200 Medley team of Mathews and seniors Tommy Consiglio, Austin Chambers and Boone Pruter took eighth in a time of 1 minute, 53.33 seconds. The 200 Free team, featuring the same four swimmers, finished seventh with a time of 1 minute, 38.21 seconds.
The Heights Invitational replaced the originally scheduled Great Bend Invitational. HHS will next compete at Salina South on Feb. 5 and wrap up its regular season schedule on Feb. 8 at Manhattan.
