Goodlett posts strong time for HHS swimming

OVERLAND PARK -- The Hays High School girls' swim team gained a possible state qualifier on Saturday when freshman Ana Goodlett earned state consideration in the 100 backstroke. She swam the event in 1 minute, 11.56 seconds, good for sixth place, at the Blue Valley Southwest Invitational.

Goodlett also took ninth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:44.77. Senior Mackenzie Lewis was the only other top 10 individual finisher for the Indians, placing seventh in the 100 freestyle in 1:06.52. The 400 free relay team of Goodlett, Lewis, freshman Emily Brinley and junior Amanda Koenigsman took eighth in 4:54.70.

As a team, Hays High took 10th out of 12 schools with 47.5 points.

St. Thomas Aquinas finished first with 266.5 points, followed by Blue Valley Southwest's 207 and Wichita Heights' 201.

Hays High was set to host its own invitational today at 4 p.m. at the Center for Health Improvement pool. The Indians will also host the Western Athletic Conference meet on May 15.
