HHS swimmers win at Great Bend

GREAT BEND -- The Hays High School boys' swimming team won its first meet this season, finishing first with 361 points Tuesday at Great Bend.

The Indians defeated six other schools. Great Bend was second with 308, and Hutchinson was third with 288.

Hays High won two event titles with senior Derek Drees in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.92 seconds and senior Blake Mathews in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.63 seconds.

Drees and Mathews also had second-place finishes. Drees was runner-up in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.67, while Mathews was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.21.

Sophomore Ben Rajewski was third in the 500 freestyle in 6:13.60.
