HHS swimmers second in Manhattan

MANHATTAN -- The Hays High School boys' swimming team finished second at its meet Wednesday in Manhattan.
The Indians finished second with 276 points behind Manhattan, who won with 418. Salina Central (252), Salina South (233) and Junction City (171) were third, fourth and fifth.
Hays High had 11 top-three finishes.
Senior Derek Drees won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.88 seconds and finished third in the 100-yard butterfly in one minute and 2.92 seconds.
He also was a member of the second-place 400 freestyle relay (3:46.21), composed of Drees, sophomore Morgan Mathews, senior Joshua Brungardt and senior Blake Mathews, and the third-place 200 medley relay (1:58.43), composed of Drees, senior Connor Hess, junior Austin Chambers and Brungardt.
Blake Mathews was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.46 and in the 500 freestyle in 5:37.62. He also was a member of the second-place 200 freestyle relay (1:44.25), composed of Morgan Mathews, Hunter Perryman, Cade Sharp and Blake Mathews.
Hess also finished third in the 200 IM in 2:32.51 and 100 backstroke in 1:07.39.
Chambers and Ben Rajewski also finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.26) and 500 freestyle (6:10.51), respectively.
