Forensic symposium set for Oct. 16

HaysMed Education and the University of Kansas Medical Center AHEC-Western Kansas is sponsoring a Forensic Symposium 2013 on Oct. 16 at the HaysMed Hadley Conference Rooms, 2220 Canterbury, Hays. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Featured speakers include Jennifer Johnson, RN, BSN, MSN, CHNP, SANE-A, SANE-P; and Kerri Weeks, MD.
Topics to be addressed will be patho-physiological response, lethality, morbidity and injuries associated with strangulation; documentation issues, drug facilitated sexual assault victims, securing urine and blood samples for crime lab evaluation, forensic exams on unconscious patients as a result of drug facilitated sexual assault; SAFE/SANE exams, case study review.
This program is designed for Physicians, PAs, ARNPs, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Social Workers, PTs, OTs, law enforcement and other interested healthcare professionals. FIVE (5.0) hours of continuing education credit are available for CNE, CME and Respiratory Therapy credit. Approval is pending for ASRT Category A credit and paperwork will be provided to submit to KOTA and KPTA for credit. FIVE (5) Law Enforcement Continuing Education Hours will be provided through KLETC.
Fee for the symposium is $50 for non HaysMed associates and $25 for HaysMed, Pawnee Valley Community Hospital and Critical Access Hospital employees.
