Two days after finding out he'd been kicked off of two powerful congressional committees for bucking House Republican leadership, Rep. Tim Huelskamp continued swinging back in an interview with two dozen Kansas journalists.
On Monday, Huelskamp was told he was being removed from the House Budget Committee and the House Agriculture Committee, possibly marking the first time in history Kansas won't be represented on the ag committee.
Huelskamp said he had talked with Sen. Pat Roberts, who was chairman of the House Agriculture Committee from 1995 to 1997 and is now the ranking Republican on the Senate Agriculture Committee.
"Sen. Roberts is trying to help, as well, and, hopefully, he'll have some influence on the leadership," Huelskamp said.
He said efforts were under way to have him reinstated to the committee or to have another member of the Kansas delegation appointed.
A spokeswoman for Roberts' office confirmed Roberts had spoken directly with House Speaker John Boehner "on behalf of Congressman Huelskamp and the 1st District."
