Kansas ministry draws unique following

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- A church ministry in Kansas is catering to the cowboy crowd.

The Crossroads Cowboy Church in Williamstown welcomes cowboys in jeans and big hats.

Pastor Terry Newell says his church is at the crossroads between Christianity and Western culture. His flock is growing, up to about 80 members since it was formed in March.

There's no stained glass, no pews with lavish cushions, no choir dressed in robes. But don't be fooled, Newell says. This is a place of God.

But the church understands its own roots. In July, the church put on a rodeo, something it plans to make annual event.
