OLATHE, Kan. (AP) -- A suburban Kansas City man has pleaded guilty in a drunken driving crash that killed a French exchange student at the University of Kansas as he pushed a stalled vehicle.
The Kansas City Star reported on its Web site that 25-year-old Steven Cummins of Shawnee entered the guilty plea Tuesday in Johnson County District Court to counts of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery.
Cummins' blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit early on the morning of Feb. 7 when he struck and killed Dimitri Mavridorakis near Interstate 35 on Shawnee Mission Parkway in Merriam.
The 23-year-old from Saint-Etienne, France, was three months from earning his MBA from the University of Kansas.
Another man pushing the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
