Kan. gov. suggests critics too generous on deal

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson is suggesting that some critics of his administration's job-recruiting efforts want him to be fiscally irresponsible.

Top Republican legislators are criticizing the Democratic governor for saying Kansas won't offer more than $230 million in state and local incentives to lure a corporate office complex and major league soccer stadium to Kansas City, Kan.

Leaders of the GOP majority in the Kansas House say they are concerned that Parkinson said the proposal is the best Kansas can do, rather than with the amount of incentives. They contend Parkinson and his administration should be more flexible because the project would bring 9,000 jobs to Kansas.
