MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- An Ogden resident has been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of a woman and her toddler son, whose bodies were found last week in rural Riley County.
Riley County Police Department director Bradley Schoen said Monday that 22-year-old Luis Antonio Aguirre is being held in jail in Austin, Texas, on $2.5 million bond.
Schoen identified the victims as 18-year-old Tanya Carmen Lydia Maldonado and her 15-month-old son, Juan Luis Maldonado. Their last known address was in Chicago.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Schoen says the Maldonado had a relationship with Aguirre, who apparently fled to Texas after the deaths.
A hunter discovered the bodies Oct. 25 in shallow graves in a field northeast of Ogden.
A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Texas to extradite Aguirre to Kansas.
