Although a formal announcement appears a way off, 1st District Congressman Jerry Moran has filed paperwork to begin raising money for a
run at the U.S. Senate in 2010.
Moran spokesman Travis Murphy said today the filing with the Federal Election Commission allows Moran to collect contributions for a
Senate campaign and to transfer campaign funds leftover from his House account.
In winning a seventh term in office earlier this week, Moran reportedly raised $1.52 million and spent $318,944 through Oct. 15. He ended that
period with about $2.4 million in his House campaign account.
However, on Thursday, Moran said he doesn't anticipate formally launching his bid for the Senate in the near future. In fact, the Hays Republican said he's just ready to get back to work in his present post.
"Voters are already currently tired of politics," Moran said. "Even political activists are worn out from all the political talk. I don't think now is the time for some formal announcement."
