Weimaster to lead Russell Police Department
By MIKE CORN
RUSSELL -- Dale Weimaster has been appointed Russell's new police chief effective Friday.
He replaces and was appointed by Russell City Manager Jon Quinday, who had served as police chief until the City Council named him interim city manager. While serving in that capacity, he decided to apply for the position and was appointed by the council.
Weimaster joined the Russell department as a patrolman in 1994 and worked his way up the ranks, being named captain in 2009.
He is a lifelong resident of Russell where he and his wife, Joan, raised two children.
Weimaster has participated in the Russell County Leadership Program, attended the Kansas Police Administrator's School, FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association's Leadership and Management training, and Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center's Advanced Supervision and Management course. He serves on the Russell County Emergency Communications Advisory Board and the local emergency planning commission.
He will take the oath of office at 2 p.m. Friday in the council chambers at city hall. The swearing-in ceremony is open to the public.
