City to begin sealing streets Tuesday

Beginning Tuesday, some Hays streets will be chip sealed. The city has contracted with B&H Paving of Scott City. Work is to be completed by Thursday, weather permitting.

Residents living on the streets to be chip sealed will be asked to remove all vehicles, trailers, etc. from the streets by 7 a.m. on the day of the chip seal. Cars parked in driveways should be pulled as far as possible onto property to avoid over-spray of oil. All sprinklers should be turned off so no water gets on the streets. Drivers are advised to drive cautiously on newly sealed streets until excess material has been removed.

The liquid asphalt will stick to shoes and tires and is difficult to remove. Children and pets should be kept away from the newly sealed streets. Traffic control devices will be in place.
