Victoria schools still need improvements
VICTORIA -- As it stands, the $3.5 million bond issue to fund improvements to both the elementary and high schools here has been voted down.
However, immediate improvements still are needed, including a new roof for the elementary school.
"We needed the bond to get the roof," Kenne said. "We do not have enough money without the bond issue to replace the roof all at once."
Instead, the school district will have to repair the roof in phases, starting with the parts that leak now.
The district also has to replace one school bus this year.
"You cannot have a bus that is older than 20 years," Kenne said. "The bus wasn't part of the bond. It was going to be taken care of in capital outlay funds."
However, roof repair funds also could come from the same fund, nearly depleting it.
"I can't tell you that we'll go to the voters again," Kenne said.
