Rain washes out Norton features

NORTON -- Mother Nature blessed the area with much-needed moisture during the weekend, but that also led to some postponements at Elmwood Park Speedway in Norton.

As the track was getting close to running the feature races, rain swept in ad put an end to the night's activities.

The remainder of the program will be finished prior to the start of the regular show scheduled for April 13.

For what it's worth ...

This weekend marks the return of races at RPM Speedway and WaKeeney Speedway. Salina Speedway kicks off April 13 with a special Saturday show. ... Congrats to Dighton's Shannon Maughlin, a regular at Hays and WaKeeney. He won the stock car feature at Dodge City on Saturday and will be driving in the stock class and mod class this year.

Engine problems end weekends

Two drivers who regularly competed with the United Rebel Sprint Series 305 sprint car class have decided to focus more on the 360 division this year.

But Ty Williams and Zach Blurton, both had a rough start to the season.

On Friday night during practice at 81 Speedway in Park City, both blew engines and couldn't compete in Saturday night's event.

Blurton did make it back to his shop and took his 305 car to Norton to compete. He won his heat before rain postponed the feature.

Gearhart wins at Dodge City

DODGE CITY -- Cody Gearhart of Turpin, Okla., won the modified feature Saturday night at Dodge City Raceway Park.

Gearhart regularly competes in Hays at RPM Speedway.

WaKeeney's Kyle Rohleder had an impressive run, finishing third after winning the B-main.Russell's Jason Schoenberger won his heat race but was 18th in the feature.

Clay Sellard took home the trophy in the sport mod feature, holding off Josh Appel for the win. Matthew Crowell was fourth, and Ellis' Daniel Gottschalk was fifth.

Dighton's Shannon Maughlin, who is expected to split time between a modified and a stock car this year, opened the year with a win in the stock car class. Josh Crombie was fourth, Cody Williams was ninth and Dusty Witthuhn was 10th.

Weekly racing returns to DCRP on April 20.
