Try, try again for WaKeeney Speedway

Officials at WaKeeney Speedway might be scratching their heads wondering what they have to do to get their Spring Fling finished.

The event was postponed from March 23 as winter weather set in. On Sunday, track officials tried again.

They were successful -- for a bit. That's when Mother Nature unleashed a fury of rain, wind and hail, forcing the races to be postponed until 4 p.m. Sunday.

Hopefully the third time will be the charm.

For what it's worth ...

The weekend features many opportunities to get out to tracks in the state to watch the action. Salina Speedway kicks off the season at 7 p.m. Saturday before returning to its regular nights of racing on Fridays. Elmwood Park Speedway in Norton will be racing at 6 p.m. Saturday on the half-mile dirt surface. ... Iowa's Jesse Sobbing, who dominated the sport mod class for several years, has made the jump to the modified class in his Jet Chassis. Sobbing isn't struggling a bit. He won Saturday's feature at RPM Speedway and was 12th the night before after having a tire go down when he was in third. For the season, the Glenwood, Iowa, driver has won five times. Not too shabby for only competing in 14 races so far this year. ... Tyler Frye had a solid run at RPM, winning both nights of the Sunflower Classic. Frye is a talented driver who knows how to get to the front. Case in point: last weekend.
