ASCS

MERRITT, Mich. (August 15, 2009) - Dustin Daggett continued his domination of Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP competition Saturday night at Merritt Speedway. Daggett passed early leader Tim Norman just past the halfway mark in the feature and motored to his ninth victory this season in series competition in the Mott Motorsports Gaerte powered Maxim chassis.

"Tim (Norman) was running really well and the track was really fast tonight, so we had a nice battle for the lead," said Daggett. "I finally got a nice run down the backstretch to set up getting by (Norman)."

The feature got off to two ugly starts with two separate flips. The first red was for second place point driver Gregg Dalman, who got up on the left side of his car and turned over and six other cars piled in. Point leader Brett Mann was also involved in the incident and went pitside for repairs.

On the second start rookie Don Proctor made his first sprint car start even more memorable with a nasty tumble in turn one. Aaron Shaffer also suffered damage from the incident, but was able to return to the track along with Mann without any laps being complete.

The third attempt with a single file restart saw Ryan Ruhl and Norman battle for the lead with Norman taking the top spot. Daggett quickly moved up from his eighth starting position through attention and passing to take second away from Ruhl and set sail after Norman. Daggett just had Norman setup for the lead pass when a pair of cautions came out on lap five for Robert Huisken with suspension damage joined by the stopped car of Nick Rogers and a spin by Dain Naida.

Norman changed his line after the restart and kept Daggett at bay until they approached lapped traffic Just after the halfway point Daggett got a run under Norman and the duo raced side by side for two laps until Daggett took the lead.

As Daggett sped off with the lead through traffic Norman then spent the remainder of the race battling Ryan Ruhl, Davey Brown, and Ryan Grubaugh. Ruhl got a run on Norman at the white flag and pulled along side for the entire last lap and stole the spot away at the finish line. Brown and Grubaugh rounded out the top five.

Dalman, Brown, and Norman won heat race events. Daggett won the fast car dash while Dain Naida won the B-Main event.
