TULSA, Okla. (June 25, 2009) - It's the eve of one of the biggest weekends of American Sprint Car Series racing action thus far in 2009, a weekend in which more than 200 different drivers will compete in at least one of the ten events scheduled at nine different tracks throughout seven states.
From Eldon, MO, to Great Falls, MT, and Jamestown, NY, to Tucson, AZ, and points in between, the American Sprint Car Series will be on center stage with four Friday night events and then another six events on Saturday night.
The weekend's headliner is the Third Annual Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lake Ozark Speedway featuring the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters near Eldon, MO, on Saturday night. With the $6,000 to win share and critical points accumulated towards the $250,000 points fund, the pit area should be bulging at the seams as the series flirts with its season average of 56.25 cars per event.
The ASCS Rocky Mountain and Northwest Regions square off for two nights at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, MT, where a Montana state record of 43 Sprint Cars at one event is in jeopardy of falling. And don't forget those potential bragging rights for one Region or the other.
Another pair of Regions square off at Hartford, SD, on Friday night with the Midwest versus the Northern Plains at I-90 Speedway, a prime opportunity for area teams to get dialed in for the Lucas Oil ASCS event at I-90 on July 11.
The Lone Star Region doubles up in Texas with its lone stop of the year at Boyd Raceway on Friday and then a $2,000 to win tilt at Cowtown on Saturday night. The ASCS Sprints on Dirt are also set for a pair of events in Michigan with its first stop at Mt. Pleasant Speedway in four years on Friday and then the third stop of 2009 at I-96 Speedway on Saturday, where Dustin Daggett tries for a sixth consecutive series score atop the Lake Odessa dirt oval.
The wingless ASCS Canyon Region takes to Tucson's USA Raceway for the first time this season on Saturday night, with drivers, officials and promoters taking turns getting dunked in "Hot Summer Nights" pre-race festivities while the ASCS Patriots take another stab at Stateline Speedway in Jamestown, NY, after Mother Nature intervened last weekend.
The ten ASCS events slated for the weekend is second in 2009 thus far to only the Memorial Day weekend in which 13 of 14 scheduled events were completed. That weekend also included the most recent pair of points-paying events for the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters.
Saturday's Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lake Ozark Speedway kicks off a busy five-week slate of action for the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series with events coming up including the Rock & Roll 50 at Riverside Speedway (West Memphis, AR) on July 3-4, the series third annual stop at I-90 Speedway (Hartford, SD) on July 11, the Third Annual Fred Brownfield Memorial at Grays Harbor Raceway Park (Elma, WA) on July 17-18 and then the Northwest Swing finale at Oregon's Cottage Grove Speedway on July 24-25. It will mark the National series' debut at both Grays Harbor and Cottage Grove.
In total, the American Sprint Car Series has already logged 65 feature events into the books in 2009 with 44 drivers posting at least one feature win. A total of 595 different drivers have already competed in at least one ASCS event in 2009.
