ASCS

WOODHULL, NY (May 30, 2009)- Bobby Breen never met a cushion he didn't like. Woodhull Raceway has always fit his eye and with a fast car and an outside front row starting spot, he had all of the ingredients needed to pick up his second win of the short season.

The younger of the Breen Brothers from Savannah, NY ran some of the fastest laps of the night at the top of the high-banked Woodhull Raceway to stave off a hard-charging Don Adamczyk and pick up the Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot Regional Win to round out a month of ups and downs.

"I always liked this track, I was definitely looking forward to this event," noted the mild-mannered teenager in Victory Lane. "We had it set up to run the top and the car was real good up there."

Breen took the lead in the third corner of the first turn from pole sitter Gordy Button. He would lead the first five circuits in dominating fashion, but on lap six Don Adamczyk dove underneath the No. 9 and stole the lead away. This would start a five-lap scramble where the lead was exchanged at the start finish line four times.

"I got worried there one time when he got underneath me, but I knew that we had a good car and just stuck to the outside and got back by him in lapped traffic," added Breen.

Just after Breen moved back around Adamczyk, his older brother Blake would spin to bring out the caution. It would give Bobby the opportunity to get out of lapped traffic and get back to hitting his marks, something he did with perfection over the second half of the race.

It was just the second Patriot A-Main of the year Breen was able to finish but both of those have resulted in wins. When the B.B.R. Restoration team hasn't been stricken with bad luck they have been the quickest of a tough group of cars.

It was the fifth win of Bobby's career, putting him back in front of his Brother in the win column. It is also the first time he has won multiple features in a single season.

As Breen was laying down lap times close to the track record on the top of the speedway, Bryan Howland was slicing his way through the field and making it interesting in the closing laps.

Howland, of Auburn, NY, moved around Adamczyk with three laps to go and would finish in the brides-maid position for the second consecutive visit to the high banks. Howland may have had a race-winning car if not for drawing eighth in the top-8 redraw for the A-Main. He also regained the point lead with his fourth top-five in five events in 2009.

Adamczyk would hang on to round out the podium positions. It was the second top-3 in three visits to Woodhull for the Williamsville Warrior. After winning National Parts Peddler Heat No. 2, the No. 21 was the quickest car in the opening laps of the feature but his setup went away over the second half of the event when he struggled to find the same great bite coming off the bottom of turn two.

Bubba Broderick continued his sizzling start to his sophomore season with a fourth place showing. The Brookfield, CT driver won the first heat then pulled off a dare-devil move on lap 12 to get the fourth position, splitting the middle of a four-wide battle for fourth off of turn four.

Jared Fink used what he learned in winning the B-Main to rocket up to round out the top-five in his first Patriot start of the year. The Eastern New York competitor made it four former Central New York Mini Sprint competitors in the top-five.

Bobby Howard, of Mechanicsburg, PA, made his first career Patriot start count with a run from 13th to 6th. Gordy Button won NPP Heat 3 and would place in seventh for another solid run for the veteran.

Jared Zimbardi had his worst finish of the year, but it was still an eighth place effort. 2004 Patriot Champ George Suprick brought his No. 87 home in ninth while Blake Breen completed the top-10.

A total of 28 cars helped to fill the pit area on a gorgeous night to kick off the PJ Motorsports King of the Southern Tier Series.

After a rare weekend off, the Lucas Oil Patriots return to action at the "Land of Legends" Canandaigua Speedway on June 13 for the second leg of the A-Verdi King of Central New York Series.
