TULSA, Okla. (May 26, 2009) - The American Sprint Car Series Rebel Region fires back into action for the first time since January with Saturday night's series debut at Georgia's Lavonia Speedway.

The ASCS Rebel Region launched its third season of competition East Bay's Winter Nationals on January 29-31 with Danny Martin, Jr., and Jesse Hockett taking wins after the first preliminary night was rained out.

Hailing from Sarasota, FL, Danny Martin, Jr., escaped the season opener with a two-point advantage over Tampa's Gene Lasker, with the balance of the top five including Jason Sides, Tony Bruce, Jr., and Brock Mayes.

The ASCS Rebel championship points chase will get a shake up beginning with Saturday's action at Lavonia as the series contenders try to close in on the top spot.

Saturday's card at Lavonia is the first of four consecutive weekends of competition for the ASCS Rebel Region, with the series taking to Deep South Speedway (Loxley, AL) on June 6, Green Valley Speedway (Glencoe, AL) on June 12 and then Oglethorpe Speedway Park (Savannah, GA) and Swainsboro (GA) Raceway on June 19-20.

The slightly banked, 3/8-mile Lavonia Speedway clay oval is located in Lavonia, GA, off of I-85 Exit 177, then 5,1 miles south on SR 77, then 0.6 miles west on SR 77 connector. For more information, contact the track at 706-356-2220.

The ASCS Rebel Region is slated for 13 nights of competition at nine different tracks throughout Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

The American Sprint Car Series, in its 18th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing events, brings the best of Sprint Car racing to nearly 100 different tracks throughout 25 states and Canada in 2009. Anchored by the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of a dozen different Regions throughout the nation.
