The inaugural season of the NCRA 305 sprint cars hasn't been exactly what promoter C. Ray Hall was expecting.
But contrary to rumors running through the racing scene, Hall says he isn't calling the series off for the rest of the year.
Hall said he decided not to sanction Saturday's race at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney with the Oil Capital Racing Series due to a possibility of a low car count.
"I just thought we wouldn't have enough cars to have a guarantee to be fair," he said. "For me to see three, four or six cars, that's not fair. ... I didn't quit. It wasn't in the best interest of the NCRA."
The 305 series, which differs slightly in rules from the northwest Kansas-based United Rebel Sprint Series 305 class, has had two races this season, both at 81 Speedway in Park City.
But the car count has been low. Seven cars competed May 10, and four cars passed through the gate May 25. Both nights were won by Tanner Mullens.
Hall said the 305 class will compete at the Hutchinson Nationals later this summer, and at other scheduled event -- although no more upcoming races are listed under the NCRA 305 category on the NCRA Web site, www.ncraracing.org.
"I'll be here this year and be here next year," Hall said.
