NCRA

Doniphan, Nebraska - August 22, 2009 - Defending series champion Mike Peters is making one final push to retain his championship points title. After struggling through the mid season race schedule, the Wichita, Kansas veteran has reeled off two feature wins in a row, the latest coming this past Saturday night as the O'Reilly/NCRA sprint car division made their first and only appearance at Mid-Nebraska Speedway in Doniphan, Nebraska. But this one wasn't easy as it was decided on the final lap.

Chad Humston jumped out into the lead at the start of the thirty lap feature and led the first several laps before the first caution of the Hard Rock Hotel-Casino feature fell on lap five when Mike Chadd, J.D. Johnson and A.J. Selenke got together, ending Chadds night early.

After two foiled attempts for a restart due to cautions, Humston once again took control and kept the Mark Burch Motorsports owned #1M Engler powered Wolf Weld chassis out front. However, all that would change on lap eighteen when Zach Chappell, aboard the Danny King owned, ICM/Ethanol #E85 sponsored sprinter passed Humston for the lead.

Chappell looked to be on his way to his second feature victory of the season but Peters had other thoughts. On the final lap, Peters, aboard the Mid-America Millwright/Advanced Auto Parts sponsored Schnee, got passed Chappell and raced across the finish line for his series leading third victory of the season. Humston also got around Chappell to take over the runner up position with Garry Lee Maier working his way into fourth at the finish. Jason Danely rounded out the top five.

Heat races for the twenty-two car field were won by Humston, Chappell and Jeff Lowery while Danley took home "B" feature honors.

The next and final event for the O'Reilly/NCRA sprint car division will take place on Saturday night, October 10th at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas as part of the tracks annual Fall Classic, which will also be season ending points races for the O'Reilly/NCRA modified and O'Reilly/NCRA sport modified divisions.
