OSBORNE, KS (July 25)--Osborne (KS) Speedway hosted races during the Osborne County Fair on Sunday evening, July 25, with 4 IMCA-sanctioned classes in action.
In the IMCA Modified feature, Jordan Grabouski of Beatrice, NE, was on a rail as he led all 20 laps. The caution flag waved several times, but each time Grabouski pulled away as the green flag waved. The final caution came on lap 19 when Jesse Richter drove off the track, setting up a green-white-checkered finish. Darrick Klima chased 'Garbo' the last 2 laps but could not make a challenge and settled for second. Marty Clark was third, followed by Corey Lagroon and Chris Vogan. Heat race winners were Grabouski and Lagroon.
Josh Hudson of Kensington also made it look easy in the IMCA Stock Car feature. After an opening lap mishap claimed the cars of Terry Cunningham and Terry Franz, Hudson was chased early on by Pat Bedore and Adam Balthazor, but by the halfway mark of the 15-lap event, Hudson had cleared the field. The race of the night was for the runner-up spot as Jared Remus, Balthazor, Bedore and Jay Hachmeister ran nose-to-tail and side-by-side. The four would finish that way behind Hudson when the checkers fell. Terry Cunningham and Hachmeister were victorious in the 2 heat races.
The IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature had more than its share of problems. The first caution waved on lap 2 when Troy Attwood and Ryan Goheen went off the track. After the restart, a 7 car pileup occurred on the front straightaway. All drivers were okay and 5 of the 7 cars returned, but the night was over for Mathew Crowell and Max Harder. The red flag waved the second time in the 15-lap race when Steve Swarthout's car went up in flames on lap 5. Leader Shaylon Holloway, who took the lead from Tanner Portenier on lap 2, was then passed on lap 6 by Belleville's Tyler Frye. Frye led the remaining distance for the victory, followed by Jason Nelssen, Goheen, Holloway, and Tyler Sutton. Heat race victors were Troy Attwood and Wade Wagenblast.
Cody Graham of Hays led the first half of the 15-lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature before Jacob Williams of Belleville took over the top spot at the crossed flags. Williams then went on to win the race, but was later disqualified in post race tech for an illegal carburetor. That gave the win to Graham, with Rhett 'The Rocket' Kingsbury, Jerry Hudson, G.W. 'Cheeseburger' Fuller and Jeromy Wagner rounding out the top five. Michael Lauber and Graham won the 2 heat races.
The second and final night of racing at Osborne Speedway will be Monday evening, July 26.
