STOCKTON, KS (August 18)--Fair champions in four divisions were crowned Thursday evening, August 18, at Rooks County Speedway in Stockton, KS. Points accumulated for both Wednesday and Thursday were totaled to determine the champions.
The first one to claim the crown was Jeromy Wagner of Kensington. After finishing second to G.W. 'Cheeseburger' Fuller on Wednesday night, Wagner took the lead at the drop of the green and led all 12 laps of the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Jason McIntyre finished second, followed by Jacob Crowell, Fuller, and Rick Maynard. Heat race winners were Fuller and Wagoner.
'Flyin' Bryan Lariviere of Wichita won his second IMCA Sport Mod feature in a row at Stockton to win the fair title. Heat one winner Tracy Holloway led the opening lap before second heat winner Lariviere drove past and led the remaining 14 laps on the ½-mile oval for his 30th feature win of the season in his quest for a national championship. Tanner Portenier, Holloway, Tyler Sutton and Joe Couse rounded out the top five.
Hometown fans did have one driver claim a fair title. Adam Balthazor led the opening lap of the 20-lap IMCA Stock Car feature before the only caution flag during the four feature events waved on lap 2 when Josh 'The Hammer' Hudson came to a stop in turn 4. Balthazor led the field back to green, but Jay Hachmeister took the lead on lap 3, but that was short lived as Balthazor regained the lead on lap 5 and held on for the feature win. Jason Davis finished second, with Hachmeister, Tyler Hahn and Hudson completing the top five. The two heat race winners were Dustin McClurg and Terry Cunningham.
Four-time IMCA Modified national champion David Murray Jr. of Oberlin took advantage of his outside front row starting spot to jump out to a quick lead and pull away from the 12-car field for the feature win, and coupled with a runner-up finish on Wednesday, the fair championship. Travis 'The Terminator' Sherfick chased Murray but could not get close enough to mount a serious challenge. 'The Wichita Wrangler' Randy Wilson finished third, followed by Cody Gearhart and Tim Watts. Wilson and 'Dynamite' Dylan Sherfick were victorious in the two heat races.
Fair race sponsors included 1st Stop convenience stores, with locations throughout the area, and Prowler Chassis of Stockton, Dean & Libby Kester.
