SALINA -- The 2011 racing season came to a climatic close on Sunday October 16 as five champions were declared in the first ever Fall Fling at the Salina Speedway.
For Jeremy Massey, victory seemed to be a long shot as the laps wound down in the Belleville Motorsports Modified feature event. Brandon Blochlinger had a controlling lead and looked to be headed for the win. But on a restart just past the halfway mark his ride went up in flames as the motor exploded, giving the lead then to Joe Cleveland. Cleveland would hold the lead until slipping up in turn three allowing Massey to take advantage and hold on for a $2,500 payday. At the line Jordan Grabouski finished second by inches over Cleveland with Mike Petersilie and Corey Lagroon rounding out the top five.
Wild was an easy way to describe the Coors Light Stock Car main event. Polesitter Geoff Jermark held the point until Bruce Plumisto had a run out of turn four to get by Jermark. As the two passed the flag stand they made contact, sending both into the wall and Plumisto upside down and into the fence above the wall entering turn one. Both drivers emerged unscathed but were done for the night. Jeff Joldersma inherited the lead and held it until the white flag lap, when he was challenged by Kyle Vanover. Vanover got by Joldersma entering turn three but contact in turn four send Vanover spinning as the pack charged towards the finish line. Race officials awarded Vanover the win, followed by Mike Wadel, Austin Carter, Jimmy Brozek, and Scott Claussen. Wadel was the Hard Charger of the race after starting seventeenth.
Bryan Lariviere capped a stellar season with the championship win in the Xtreme Motorsports B-Modified feature. Lariviere started from the outside pole position and was able to easily roll to the win followed by Max Harder, Delbert Smith, Tyler Frye, and Greg Metz. Jeremy Chambers was the Hard Charger of the race after starting eighteenth and finishing eighth.
Tescott driver GW Fuller returned to his old stomping grounds to take home a huge win by rolling into Victory Lane following the Blind Pig Sports Lounge Hobby Stock feature. Fuller found a way around Tyrel Smith to take the win. Smith followed in second, with Lonnie Greuter third, Mike Traskowsky fourth, and Tony Slothower fifth. Greuter was the Hard Charger after starting thirteenth.
Justin Kinderknecht seemed to have a bad night go worse at the start of the Auto House Mod Lite feature as he was run into in turn one by another car. That only lit the fire to get his car going as he then went to the front and had a classic side by side duel with his father Earl Kinderknecht for the lead and eventual win. Earl Kinderknecht finished second with Tyler Bradshaw third, Corbin Pickerill fourth, and Kale Beavers fifth. Pickerill was the Hard Charger after starting in twelfth place.
