STOCKTON, KS (August 12)--Racing action at Wakeeney (KS) Speedway shifted to the ½-mile oval at Rooks County Speedway in Stockton, KS, for fair races on Wednesday evening, August 12. This event was a points race for the Wakeeney Speedway.
Beloit's Tim Watts was not to be denied in the IMCA Modified feature. Watts took advantage of his outside pole starting position in the 24-car field and took the lead at the drop of the green and never looked back on his way to the checkers. The caution flag waved several times, but each time Watts was up to the challenge and able to pull away from the field. Heat one winner Jordan Grabouski chased Watts late in the race and stayed close but could not mount a threat and settled for second. Jerry Phillips finished third, followed by John Fabrizius and John Fose. Point leader Corey Lagroon and Jason Schoenberger also won heat races.
Cory Struckhoff took the early lead in the IMCA Stock Car feature, followed by Dustin McClurg and Terry Cunningham. Consecutive yellows on laps 4, 5 and 6 kept the field close. On lap 9, second running McClurg spun in turn one with Cunningham, Pat Bedore and Jason Davis close behind. Everyone dodged the spinning car but McClurg had to tag the field at the back on the restart. Struckhoff led the field to the crossed flags of the 20-lap race, but on lap 13, the leader had a flat tire and had to pit, handing the lead over to Cunningham. The Wakeeney veteran was able to hold off Davis, Adam Balthazor, Bedore and Travis Sherfick at the line for his third points win at Wakeeney. Heat race winners included Sherfick, Struckhoff and Cunningham.
B.J. Dauer, the "Muscleman from Marquette", continued his dominance in the IMCA Hobby Stock division. The third place starting Dauer charged to the front on the opening lap and never looked back enroute to his fifth Wakeeney points win this season. Three caution flags waved during the 15-lap feature to keep the field in tow, but Dauer was up to the challenge. Veteran Jerry Hudson stayed close to Dauer throughout the race but could not muster up a challenge for the lead and settled for the runner-up spot. Mathew Crowell finished third, followed by Mark Normandin and Josh Latka. Luke Pfannenstiel and Dauer were victorious in the two heat races.
