LIBERAL (Aug. 6) -- The racing action at the Five State Fair came to an end a day later than scheduled, but the racers that stuck it out gave the fans a whale of a show. When the checkered flag fell Gene Fiason and Troy Gemmill claimed wins before an enthusiastic crowd.
The Stock Cars feature was led tot the green by Steve Abbott with Ray Elfers jumping out to the early lead followed by Jason Taylor, Gene Fiason, Chris Oliver and Jason Kiley rounding out the top five at lap one. Jason Taylor took the lead with Fiason and Elfers on his deck lid. Fiason took the top spot on lap three with Kiley coming up to challenge Elfers for the runner-up spot.
Fiason, Elfers and Kiley were locked in a three-way fight for the point with Fiason holding the spot until lap eleven when Elfers took the position. Fiason continually dogged Elfers the next four laps until the white flag lap when Fiason took the point. As the checkers waived Fiason took the win with Edwin Elloit, Elfer Jason Taylor and Nicholas Link rounding out the top five. The win also gave Fiason the Five State Fair Championship by a mere two points over Jason Taylor.
The Modified Feature was led to the green by Lee Sabata who jumped to the early lead with Trot Gemmill, Grant Florence, Brenden Gemmill and Ron Heger rounding out the top five. Troy Gemmill took the point on lap two with Cody Gearhart coming to the fourth position on lap two. Gearhart took the third spot from Sabata on lap four and set his sights on the front-runners.
Gearhart passed Brenden Gemmill for second on lap nine, and took off chasing down Troy Gemmill for the lead. The pair wove their way through traffic as they fought for the lead with Brenden Gemmill shadowing the leaders every move. Gearhart could never make the pass for the lead and as the checkered flag waived it was Troy Gemmill taking the win with Gearhart, Brenden Gemmill, Rick Taylor and Ryan Heger rounding out the top five. Gearhart's runner up position was enough to seal the Five State Fair Championship over Brenden Gemmill by four points.
