WAKEENEY, KS (August 16)--After two nights of points races at Rooks County Speedway in Stockton, KS, earlier in the week, racing returned to Wakeeney (KS) Speedway Sunday evening, August 16, the third points show for the 3/8-mile oval in 5 days.

John Fabrizius led the IMCA Modified A-feature early on, and continued to lead at the halfway mark of the 20-lap race, followed by Dave Hardesty, Salina's Corey Lagroon and Jason Schoenberger. Then on lap 11, the caution waved for a stalled Mike Petersilie. On the restart as the green replaced the yellow, point leader Lagroon made a big move to shoot past both Hardesty and Fabrizius to take a lead he would not relinquish and score his fourth win this season at Wakeeney. Schoenberger finished second, followed by Dylan Sherfick, Hardesty and Fabrizius. Heat races winners were Hardesty, Petersilie, John Fose and Jerry Phillips, with Jesse Smith taking the checkers in the B-feature.

The 20-lap IMCA Stock Car feature was worth the price of admission alone with several cars racing for the lead throughout the race. Pat Bedore led the opening lap, then Cole Wilson took the lead on lap 2, only to hand the top spot over to Terry Cunningham on lap 3. But Cunningham brought out a caution on lap 4, regrouping the field and giving the lead back to Wilson. Then Stockton's Adam Balthazor took command on lap 6 and would lead the remaining distance. It was not easy as there were at least 6 cars in the lead pack battling for position side-by-side and nose-to-tail. Balthazor held on for the victory, while Cory Struckhoff edged out Travis Sherfick for second, with Bedore and Jason Davis rounding out the top five. Cunningham and Ryan Wark were victorious in the two heat races.

The 'Muscleman from Marquette', B.J. Dauer, continued his dominance in the IMCA Hobby Stock division, winning his sixth feature of the season at the 3/8-mile oval. Dauer took the lead from heat two winner Josh Latka on lap 2 and held on through several caution periods to score the win. Mathew Crowell won the battle for second, with Mark Normandin, Casey Gilmore and Jerry Hudson rounding out the top five. Cody Williams won the other heat race.

The evening's race sponsor was Eagle Communications.

Racing concludes at Wakeeney Speedway Sunday, August 30, for the 2009 season. IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and Northern Sport Mods will all be in competition. Race time is 6:00 p.m.
