Syracuse, NY--October 9, 2009--The "King of the Mile" exhibition at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse for the World of Outlaws originally scheduled for today has been cancelled due to rain and will not be rescheduled.
The four drivers that were set to participate in the four-lap exhibition included: Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion, who has won five times in his career at the "Moody Mile" along with 2003 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner Jason Sides, reigning rookie titlist Lucas Wolfe and multi-time Lernerville Speedway track champion Ed Lynch Jr.
The last time the World of Outlaws raced at the Syracuse Mile was in 1995, when Kinser picked up a win over Dave Blaney who won the series title that season. The year before that, Billy Pauch set a new world record in a sprint car, circling the track in 24.825 seconds, at a breathtaking 144.590 miles per hour, a mark that still stands today.
The World of Outlaws are in action on Saturday, October 10 at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, New York as part of Super DIRT Week with the New York 25, which will serve as the final race of the season on the East Coast for the series. Just four events remain on the 2009 calendar, with three-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz holding a slim 14-point lead over Jason Meyers with Joey Saldana third, 40 markers out of the lead.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series is brought to fans across the country by many important sponsors and partners, including: Armor All (Official Car Care Products), Crane Cams (Official Valvetrain), Hoosier Racing Tires (Official Racing Tires), Fusion Energy Boost (Official Energy Boost), Quaker State (Official Motor Oil), SuperClean (Official Cleaner-Degreaser), VP Racing (Official Racing Fuel); in addition to contingency sponsors, Jake's Custom Golf Carts, KSE Race Products, Penske Shocks, Racing Electronics, S&S Volvo; Engine Builder's Challenge participants Don Ott Racing Engines, Kistler Engines, Shaver Specialties and SpeedwayEngines; and Chassis Builder's Challenge participants J&J Auto Racing, Maxim Racing and XXX Race Company.
