World of Outlaws

Concord, NC--May June 14, 2009--

Changing places yet again: For the second consecutive week, the second, third and fourth positions in the World of Outlaws championship standings changed hands a couple of times. Steve Kinser began the two race weekend at Dodge City Raceway Park in the second spot just two points ahead of Jason Meyers who was third, with Joey Saldana six points behind Meyers in fourth. Meyers used a runner-up finish on Friday night to move into second, with Kinser third, five points behind him and Saldana fourth just one point out of third. After his second consecutive win of the weekend on Saturday night, Saldana moved to second, with Kinser third and Meyers falling to fourth after a hard crash brought on by a mechanical problem relegated him to a 22nd-place finish. Donny Schatz currently leads the standings by 50 markers over Saldana, with Kinser 23 points behind him in third and Meyers in fourth, 13 points behind Kinser.

Moving on up: Jason Sides moved back into the Top-Five in the series championship standings after two sixth-place finishes at Dodge City. The native of Bartlett, Tennessee has 18 Top-10 finishes on the season, with eight of those being Top-Fives. He has a two-point edge over Craig Dollansky as the pair continues their battle for the fifth spot.

"The consistency part of it is great right now," said Sides. "Knowing that you can run in the Top-10 and Top-Five each night is great. We just need to keep capitalizing on that and that will make it a good summer."

One of his favorites: Joey Saldana added to his impressive record at Dodge City Raceway Park, with his two wins over the weekend. He now has four career victories at the track and has finished fifth or better in five consecutive starts at the track. With the wins, he moved into the second spot in the World of Outlaws championship standings, as he chases his first series title.

"I love coming here," said Saldana after his win on Friday night. "This is a great facility. I commend them for working on the track tonight. I know the fans don't like it, but you want to see a good race. There were two lines. You could run the top, even though there was some rubber. The race was won the top and if they hadn't worked it, you couldn't have done that. It was a great effort by Dodge City."

A strong rebound: After a hard flip on Friday night, Sam Hafertepe Jr. and his crew worked hard all day to rebuild their car and were fast right out of the box on Saturday, setting fast time in qualifying for the first time in 2009 and the first time in his career with the World of Outlaws. He came from fourth to finish second in the first heat race to earn a spot in the Crane Cams Dash, where he ran third to earn a second row starting spot in the 30-lap contest.

"We thought we lost this car last night and it's a blessing that this car is so fast," said the native of Sunnyvale, Texas. "We've been so good with this thing and everything is going right for us right now. We're just happy to be going to some tracks we know and hopefully we can put together some more strong runs."

Sticking with it: The track crew at Dodge City Raceway Park put in extra hours both nights over the weekend, to prepare the surface for racing action. After a runner-up finish on Friday night that saw him lead the first seven laps of the main event, Jason Meyers offered high regards for their efforts.

"It turned out to be a pretty good race track tonight," said Meyers. "My hat is off to the track crew for all the work they did tonight and to the fans for sticking it out with them."

From one extreme to the other: Brian Ellenberger had a career-best performance on Friday night, finishing third in the A-Feature after winning his first heat race with the World of Outlaws and earning a spot in the Crane Cams Dash for the first time in his career. On Saturday night, his fortunes changed, as he had engine trouble while running in a transfer spot in the third heat race after starting on the pole and also suffering mechanical problems to the rear-end and driveline which ended his night.

Up next: The World of Outlaws head to North Dakota for a trio of races beginning on Friday, June 19 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks for the opener of the annual Duel in the Dakota, followed by a stop at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo on Saturday, June 20. The weekend concludes at Nodak Speedway in Minot on Sunday, June 21.
