Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., presented Christy Dowling, Miss Czech Slovak US, with a plaque to commemorate her serving as the grand marshal for the 52nd annual Czech Festival in Wilson. Dowling was the first Kansan to be crowned as the Czech Slovak queen at the national Czech Pageant in Wilber, Neb.

She traveled to events across the U.S. and recently returned from a trip to the Czech and Slovak Republic and spoke at the 2012 World Congress of the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences in Zilina, Slovakia.

While there, she met with the Czech and Slovak ambassadors.

Dowling, a graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, is a senior at Kansas State University majoring in biology.

She is the daughter of Bill and Lynn Dowling, Hays.
