Gary Sanger, Hays, and Sondra Larcom, San Antonio, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Toni Sanger, to Richard Vargas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Vargas, Eagle Lake, Texas.

The bride-elect is a 2000 graduate of Hays High School. She received a bachelor's degree in microbiology from Texas State University in 2004 and a master's degree in health science and physician assistant in 2009 from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.

The prospective bridegroom is a 1999 graduate of Rice High School, Eagle Lake. He received a bachelor's degree from TSU in 2004 and master's degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Texas-Edinburg in 2008. He is an internal medicine physician assistant in San Antonio.

An Aug. 22, 2009, wedding is planned on the Riverwalk in San Antonio.
