Michael and Barbara Simon, Smithville, Mo., announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Kim Simon, to Mike Nelson, son of Mark and Kathy Nelson, Hays.

The bride-elect is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University with a master's degree. She is a third-grade teacher in Raytown, Mo.

The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Hays High School and Universal Technical Institute. He is an auto technician at Kansas City Auto Sport.

An Oct. 4, 2008, wedding is planned at Atonement Lutheran Church, Overland Park.
