Jared Thomas Staab, son of Thomas and Lenora Staab, was one of 233 medical students who received the doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in commencement ceremonies May 14.

Staab was one of nine graduates who earned a concurrent master of arts in bioethics from KCUMB's College of Biosciences during the same ceremony.

Staab is a 2002 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School and earned a bachelor's degree in cellular and molecular biology from Fort Hays State University. He graduated cum laude and is a member of Sigma Sigma Phi and Psi Sigma Alpha, national osteopathic honor societies, and received an award in infectious disease medicine.

Staab will complete postdoctoral training in anesthesiology at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.

More than 70 students were awarded nearly $80,000 at Fort Hays State University's College of Business and Leadership Scholarship Awards Ceremony for the 2011-12 academic year.

Graduate students and undergraduates alike received scholarships ranging in value from $250 to $5,000 during a ceremony led by Joan Rumpel, assistant professor of economics, finance and accounting. The following northwest Kansas students received scholarships:

Wichita State University has announced the names of more than 2,000 students who were on the dean's honor roll for spring 2011. To be included on the dean's honor roll, a student must be enrolled full time (at least 12 credit hours) and earn at least a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

DAMAR -- The St. Joseph Education Trust awarded 2011 scholarships during the graduation Mass, honoring graduating seniors at St. Joseph Parish, Damar.

The scholarships are based primarily on the student's involvement in the church and their community activities during their high school years.
