Joe Dee and Beth Tarbutton, Maple Hill, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Amanda "Mandy" Jean Tarbutton, to Michael Remer Hammersmith, son of Vernetta Hammersmith, White City, and the late Robert "Bob" Hammersmith.

Grandparents of the couple are Norman and Shirley Marstall, St. Marys, and Joe and Donna Tarbutton, Maple Hill, Vernon and Lillian Nowak, Gorham, Mildred and Ralph Windholz, Victoria, and the late Jerry Hammersmith.

The bride-elect is a 2004 graduate of St. Marys High School and a 2008 graduate of Washburn University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood education. She was also a four-year member of the Washburn Lady Blues softball team. She is teaching at Randolph Elementary School, Topeka.

The prospective bridegroom is a 2001 graduate of White City High School and a 2006 graduate of Washburn University with a dual degree in marketing and management. He also played baseball a year at Garden City Community College and the next three years as an Ichabod. He is a supervisor at Payless ShoeSource distribution center and an agent with Farm Bureau Financial Services, Topeka.

A June 19, 2009, wedding is planned at Christ the King Catholic Church, Topeka.
