Paul and Joy Thomas, Auburn, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Melissa Thomas, to Derrick Schlegel, son of Gene and Cheryl Schlegel, Alexander.

Grandparents of the couple are Robert and Pauline Morris, Auburn Clayton and Ida Thomas, Dover, Enola Kirby and Mae Schlegel, both of La Crosse, the late C.J. "Dutch" and the late Donald Kirby,

The bride-elect is a 2001 graduate of Mission Valley High School, and a 2004 and 2008 graduate of Kansas State University. She is employed as an agriculture and natural resources agent for K-State Research and Extension in Edwards County.

The prospective bridegroom is a 2001 graduate of La Crosse High School and a 2005 graduate of KSU. He is in farming and ranching and an independent sales representative for ABS Global.

An August 2009 wedding is planned at Dover Federated Church, Dover.
