David and Joelene Vitztum, Hays, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Rebecca Jo, to Mark Christopher Shields, son of Marie Pfannenstiel, Manhattan, and Roger Shields, Kansas City, Mo.

Grandparents of the couple are Gerald and Christine Vitztum, Hays, Wallace and Patricia Hanson, Goodland, and the late Herbert and Lily Walters.

The bride-elect is a 2006 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School and a 2011 graduate of the University of Kansas.

The prospective bridegroom is a 2000 graduate of TMP and a 2005 graduate of KU. He is employed by SPX Corp. in Overland Park.

A June 2, 2012, wedding is planned at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.
