Area students pick up scholarships at Fort Hays

Local students have been awarded scholarships to Fort Hays State University for the 2013-14 academic year.

Hoxie

Brady Bainter, a 2013 Hoxie High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Bainter is the son of Mike Bainter, Grainfield, and Janet Bainter, Hoxie. He plans to major in business.

Kyle Ewers, a 2013 Hoxie High School graduate, was awarded an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Ewers is the son of Bruce and Shannon Ewers, Hoxie. He plans to major in Spanish.

Courtney Schamberger, a 2013 Hoxie High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in agriculture and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Schamberger is the daughter of John and Gina Schamberger, Hoxie. She plans to major in agriculture.

Russell

Sadie Arnet, a 2013 Russell High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in sociology and a $500 Copper Academic Award. Arnet is the daughter of Charles and Angela Arnet, Russell. She plans to major in sociology.

Abigail Dreher, a 2013 Russell High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship and a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Dreher is the daughter of Valentine and Melissa Dreher, Russell. She plans to major in finance.

Alexandra Flegler, a 2013 Landon Creek Homeschool graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship and a $500 Copper Academic Award. Flegler is the daughter of Kevin and Beth Flegler, Russell. She plans to major in marketing.

Cassidy Froelich, a 2013 Russell High School graduate, was awarded an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Froelich is the daughter of Gene and Brenda Froelich, Russell. She plans a medical career.

Savanna Huff, a 2013 Russell High School graduate, was awarded an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Huff is the daughter of Justin and Natalie Yarmer, Russell, and Mark Huff. She plans to major in business finance.

Kaci Nuss, a 2013 Russell High School graduate, was awarded a $500 Copper Academic Award. Nuss is the daughter of Monte and Mary Nuss, Russell. She plans a career in athletic training.

Jennifer Patrick, a 2013 Learning Center of Ellis County graduate, was awarded an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Patrick is the daughter of Charles and Antonella Heinrich, Russell. She plans to major in justice studies.

Elizabeth Rhodes, a 2013 Russell High School graduate, was awarded a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Rhodes is the daughter of Robert and Sarah Rhodes, Russell. She plans to major in art education.

Nicholas Sells, a 2013 Russell High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in technology studies and a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Sells is the son of Roger and Tana Sells, Russell. He plans to major in technology studies.

Brooklyn Sidebottom, a 2013 Russell High School graduate, was awarded a $500 Copper Academic Award. Sidebottom is the daughter of Travis Sidebottom and Rachelle Standley, Russell. She plans a career in physical therapy.

Regis Weiss, a 2013 Russell High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in physics and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Weiss is the son of Regis and Connie Weiss, Russell. He plans to major in physics.

Oberlin

Cassandra Canto, a 2013 Decatur Community High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in music and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Canto is the daughter of Camillo and Mayda Canto, Oberlin. She plans to major in music education.

Channing Fortin, a 2013 Decatur Community High School graduate, was awarded a $500 Copper Academic Award. Fortin is the son of Ryan and Amanda Fortin, Oberlin. He plans a career in physical education.

Damar

Alex Benoit, a 2013 Palco High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in agriculture and a $500 Copper Academic Award. Benoit is the son of Tim and Brenda Benoit, Damar. He plans to major in agribusiness.

Plainville

Courtney Copeland, a 2013 Plainville High School graduate, was awarded an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Copeland is the daughter of Chadd and Cheryl Copeland, Plainville.

Andrea Karlin, a 2013 Palco High School graduate, was awarded a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in education and a $500 Copper Academic Award. Karlin is the daughter of Galen and June Karlin, Plainville. She plans to major in elementary education.

Ness City

John Clarke, a 2011 Ness City High School graduate, was awarded a $1,000 Transfer Student Award. Clarke is the son of Jerry and Jane Clarke, Ness City. He plans to major in accounting.

Matthew Frank, a 2013 Ness City High School graduate, was awarded a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Frank is the son of Kevin and Debra Frank, Ness City. He plans to major in agribusiness.

Thomas Frusher, a 2013 Ness City High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in geosciences and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Frusher is the son of Tom and Susan Frusher, Ness City. He plans to major in geology.

Brant Hagans, a 2013 Ness City High School graduate, was awarded a $500 Copper Academic Award. Hagans is the son of Kim Hagans and Amy Stoecklein, Ness City. He plans to major in music.

Chelsea Klitzke, a 2013 Ness City High School graduate, was awarded an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Klitzke is the daughter of Martin and Judy Klitzke, Ness City. She plans to major in nursing.

Nathan Corley, a 2013 Victoria High School graduate, was awarded a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Corley is the son of Rob and Michele Corley, Gorham. He plans to major in accounting.

Phillip Nowak, a 2013 Victoria High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in agriculture and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Nowak is the son of Patrick and Kimberley Nowak, Gorham. He plans to major in animal science.

Amythus Lewis, a 2013 Trego Community High School graduate, was awarded a $500 Copper Academic Award. Lewis is the daughter of Cory and Ashley Garrett, WaKeeney. She plans to major in nursing.

Brandace Goetz, a 2013 Wheatland High School graduate, was awarded a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship, a $1,200 Miller Black and Gold Academic Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in biology. Goetz is the daughter of Don Goetz, Park, and Barb Goetz, Park. She plans to major in biology.

Penokee

Caleb Studley, a 2013 Phillipsburg High School graduate, was awarded a $2,000 Fischli-Willis Scholarship. Studley is the son of Mark and Donna Studley, Philipsburg. He plans to major in finance.

Gavin Mote, a 2013 Wallace County High School graduate, was awarded a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in agriculture and a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Mote is the son of Dennis and Bonnie Mote, Sharon Springs. He plans to major in agribusiness.
