Marine Corps privates graduate from engineer school

Two area Marine Corps privates recently graduated from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Pvt. Matthew D. Wittman, son of Jody D. Shike, Oberlin, and Richard E. Wittman, Holyoke, Colo., is a 2012 graduate of Holyoke High School and joined the Marine Corps in August.
Pvt. Benjamin M. McNiel, son of Annette A. and Daniel T. McNiel, Hill City, is a 2011 graduate of Continental High School, Fowler, Colo., and joined the Marine Corps in August.
During the five-week course, Wittman and McNiel received instruction in the fundamentals of engineering support for combat units, including the procedures for building and repairing bridges, roads and field fortifications. They also received training on demolition concepts, land mine warfare and camouflage techniques.
