Midwest Energy sent Victoria High School junior Audra Nowak to Washington for the 52nd annual "Government in Action" Youth Tour last week.

Nowak, the daughter of P.J. and Kim Nowak of Victoria, was one of five students selected by Midwest Energy, and one of 34 Kansas high school students selected by electric cooperatives throughout the state, to attend the trip.

Once in Washington, the Kansas delegation joined more than 1,500 high school students from across the nation on the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour.

Other students sponsored by Midwest Energy include Kylie Jones of Rexford; Sierra Spencer Lohoefener of Oberlin; Christina Sledd of Chase; and Kelly Wycoff of Scott City.

Since 1964, the nation's electric cooperatives have collectively organized similar trips for more than 41,000 high school juniors and seniors. The tour is coordinated by Kansas Electric Cooperatives, the statewide service organization for the rural electric cooperatives in Kansas.
