DAMAR -- The St. Joseph Education Trust awarded 2010 scholarships during the graduation Mass honoring graduating seniors at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar.

The scholarships are based primarily on the students' involvement in the church and their community activities during their high school years.

Scholarship winners are: Kyle Benoit, Jared Normandin, Landon Keller, Brock Newell, Jayce Newell and Brock Kibel.

Included in the $3,000 in scholarships awarded were the Msgr. Kruse Scholarship and the Ursual Celeste McCarthy Memorial Scholarship.

The Kruse scholarship is in memory of a deceased priest who served the parish, and the Ursual Celest McCarthy scholarship was given by Father Don McCarthy in honor of his mother.

McCarthy is also a retired priest who served the Damar parish for many years and had these young men serve Mass and do other work around the parish grounds.
