Awards announced at FHSU's Phillipsburg student recognition program

The following local students accepted scholarships from Fort Hays State University for the 2012-1013 academic year at a recent Student Recognition Program in Phillipsburg.

Laurie Beard, a 2012 Phillipsburg High School graduate, accepted a $1,200 Miller black and gold academic award and a $900 academic opportunity award from the College of Business and Leadership. Beard is the daughter of James and Kathy Bead, Phillipsburg. She plans to major in marketing.

Austin Brookhouser, a 2012 Stockton High School graduate, accepted a $900 academic opportunity award in health and human performance and a $500 copper academic award. Brookhouser is the grandson of Ron and Mary Strutt, Woodston. He plans a career in athletic training.

Paige Buss, a 2012 Logan High School graduate, accepted a $700 bronze academic award and a $500 academic opportunity award in communication disorders. Buss is the daughter of Troy and Shari Buss, Logan. She plans to major in speech-language pathology.

Shelbie Christensen, a 2012 Phillipsburg High School graduate, accepted a $500 academic opportunity award from the College of Business and Leadership. Christensen is the daughter of Shane and Christie Christensen, Phillipsburg. She plans to major in accounting.

Lucas Crist, a 2012 Phillipsburg High School graduate, accepted an $800 Hays City silver academic award and a $500 academic opportunity award from the Department of Justice Studies. Crist is the son of Dan and Pam Crist, Philliipsburg. He plans to major in criminal justice.

Tiffani Eller, a 2012 Phillipsburg High School graduate, accepted a $900 academic opportunity award in psychology and an $800 Hays city silver academic award. Eller is the daughter of Gary and Starla Conner, Phillipsburg. She plans to major in psychology.

Kylee Fall, a 2012 Phillipsburg High School graduate, accepted a $900 academic opportunity award in psychology and a $700 bronze academic award. Fall is the daughter of Terry and Diane Frantz, Phillipsburg, and Scott and Deb Fall, Hays. She plans to major in psychology or radiology.

Alex Harm, a 2012 Phillipsburg High School graduate, accepted a $400 FHSU student recognition program scholarship. Harm is the daughter of Tom and Tera Harm, Phillipsburg. She plans to major in radiologic technology.

Anne Harvey, a 2012 Hill City High School graduate, accepted a $500 copper academic award and a $500 academic opportunity award in allied health. Harvey is the daughter of Robert and Leslie Harvey, Morland. She plans to major in in medical diagnostic imaging.

Melissa Hawks, a 2012 Northern Valley High School graduate, accepted a $500 academic opportunity award in teacher education. Hawks is the daughter of Michael and Deanna Hawks, Almena. She plans to major in elementary education.

Janet Johnston, a 2012 Phillipsburg High School graduate, accepted a $900 academic opportunity award in nursing and a $700 bronze academic award. Johnston is the daughter of Richard and Kathy Johnston, Phillipsburg. She plans to major in nursing.

Jordan Kellerman, a 2012 Phillipsburg High School graduate, accepted a $1,200 Miller black and gold academic award and a $900 academic opportunity award in biology. Kellerman is the daughter of Kerry and Rhonda Kellerman, Phillipsburg. She plans a career in medicine.

Nessa Larsen, a 2012 Palco High School graduate, accepted a $900 academic opportunity award in communication studies and a $700 bronze academic award. Larsen is the daughter of Donna Dobson, Palco. She plans a career in journalism.

Collin Pfeifer, a 2012 Hill City High School graduate, accepted a $900 academic opportunity award in informatics and an $800 Hays city silver academic award. Pfeifer is the son of Wayne and Kim Pfeifer, Hill City. He plans to major in informatics.

Saige Ryan, a 2012 Smith Center High School graduate, accepted a $500 academic opportunity award in teacher education. Ryan is the daughter of Rick and Shareece Hileman, Smith Center. She plans to major in elementary education.

Michaela Sasse, a 2012 Smith Center High School graduate, accepted a $2,000 FHSU presidential award, a $1,200 miller black and gold academic award and a $900 academic opportunity award in communication disorders. Sasse is the daughter of Ivan and Denise Sasse, Gaylord. She plans to major in speech-language pathology.
